Join us, on yóur rooftop

Empty university rooftops? That just doesn’t fly anymore. Or, to put it better: those rooftops are full of potential.

Sure, the campus facility teams are doing their thing to make university buildings more sustainable — and they’re doing a great job. But how much more fun, and way more educational, would it be to get the creative, young talent under those roofs involved and doing what’s possible?

Project leader training, for students, by students

Zuiderlicht runs a yearly training open to both members and non-members, sharing what we’ve learned over the past 12 years with anyone who’s up for it.

This fall, we’re kicking off a special edition just for students from VU, UvA, and HvA. In three lunch sessions, we’ll walk you through the key steps of running a solar panel project — using real university rooftops as our playground.

After these three sessions, you won’t have panels up on the roof just yet, but you’ll know exactly what it takes to get them there. And you’re super welcome to keep working with us to make it happen.

Why would you spend your precious time on such a thing?

We can all sit around waiting for governments and big companies to solve the climate crisis, or we roll up our sleeves and take action ourselves. Right here, right now, in our own city. For a smarter, cleaner future.

One extra solar roof won’t save the world. But we’re not alone. All over the country, people, and more and more young people, are getting involved.

And honestly: how cool would it be to graduate not just with a diploma, but also with a solar roof you helped create, in your student city?

When, where, and how?

We’ll meet for three lunch sessions from 12:45 to 14:30. Lunch is on us. Location will be communicated.

  • September 24: crunching numbers, picking and analyzing roofs, start building your business case
  • October 8: business case deep dive, running the project, sharing energy, and tackling grid congestion
  • October 22: project management, funding, and contracts

How much time will it take?

Besides the three sessions, you’ll work on small assignments in pairs. Count on max 2 hours per assignment.

Don’t wait too long

Spots are limited: max 20 students.

Big thanks to COOPImpact and the City of Amsterdam.

Special shout-out to our own students: Martien Kraakman, Julia Morauw, and Tim Heijnis. They drive the project and make it happen.
